Platinum Games shows its luster with an awesome hach 'n slash videogame that powers up the action genre with a great combination of elements: exploration, investigation, puzzles and even some platforming gameplay. Dude, just no. Platinum raise the level of action game again! You can't just be a fan of Sony you have to live and breath Sony a company that could care less about you. Astral Chain has NEARLY 1,000 FROM SALTY SONY FANBOYS. You can find hidden side quests and combat scenarios by taking the time to explore, and that optional stuff doesn’t feel like filler. The fact it was in a no-clip area should have been hint enough, though you can't hold the players responsible for the company's slip-up. @k8sMum Allowing reviews at all before a thing comes out is extremely stupid to begin with, but that's as close to a proper way to use pre-release user reviews as there can be. Furthermore, the user score is just 2 points away from the official aggregate, meaning there is no statistically significant difference. This isn't forgetting that things like Monster Hunter World, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts or Nier Automata sold best on Sony consoles in the west (and Japan I guess) and received massive marketing by them despite being multiplatform, thus giving them less incentive to do so...But whatever. Please disregard any "reviews" claiming the game is poorly optimized, they're written by people who never played it. Why bother giving gamers a voice if they're gonna sh*t on a product just cuz it's not how they wanted it? They've been doing this for years. Though it’s a boilerplate futuristic dystopia at face value, the plot has some fun twists and turns that keep it mostly entertaining throughout. It's not just fanboys or trolls either. My issue is people crapping on others work just because of their love of someone elses work. Calm down, your brainless fanboy is showing.
All of this provides a nice break from the action with quirky and fun dialogue, so I always went out of my way to talk to as many people as I could. Just another example to show there are a lot of idiots out there. From what I read they all seemed like legitimate complaints: the monastery being boring and pointless, too much focus on relationships, needless trashy mini games, being a bit creepy at parts, too many irritating fetch quests, regular frame rate drops, things like doors taking ages to load/open, too much rubbish 'fluff' content preventing from playing the actual game.

Which is why I give it about an 8.5. While it's had some duds, most of the titles from Platinum Games have earned critical acclaim. My favorite game for the Game Boy! And 'Shovelware' refers to the sheer metric ton of rubbish like Ninjabread Man, My Sim, Survivor and Keith Cheguins friggin trashy game. There is no other reason. Especially from a fanbase that will buy any game despite whether or not they even like the genre, theme or series, these games historically haven't sold well. It was downvoted because people expected it to be bad, then it came out and got poor reviews because it was bad, and nobody saw it because they weren't interested in it. In the first few hours, I was all over the place when it came to an assessment, as it can take some time to really turn it up.
